4th Heswall Sea Scout Group RN44
It is ten years since our first ‘Join us for a Sail’ day hosted by Dee Sailing Club, Thurstaston, and we were very pleased to be able to repeat this successful event in the 100th Year of Royal Navy recognised Sea Scouting.
The Experience was open to all sections of the Scout Group – Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and their families. The aim was to have a fun on the open water, offer a sailing experience to anyone who wants to have a go and, most importantly we raised £90 for our local RNLI Lifeboat at West Kirby. As Sea Scouts and sailors, we are very aware of the importance of this wonderful voluntary organisation, we as a group raise funds where we can for this important life saving institution and instill the importance of it with our young members.
The boats were launched from the beach so getting into them was an interesting experience involving wading out or, if you were small enough, hitching a piggy back ride!
A hot and sunny afternoon provided just enough wind for sailing. The young people and their families had a great time on the water and the beach, followed by a BBQ and bar hosted by the very welcoming sailing club members and staff.
On the water we had…
• 3 Explorers
• 6 Scouts
• 1 Cub
• 7 Beavers
• 5 parents
• 3 siblings
• 1 friend
• 4 leaders
• Altogether 18 families participating
• 8 Dee Sailing Club members Watercraft:-
• 3 x 16′ Dart catamarans
• 2 x 18′ Dart catamarans
• 2 ribs
• 1 small motor boat
A huge thank you to all at Dee Sailing Club for hosting our group and giving our younger members a taste of catamaran sailing on open waters.
