Our Group Online Privacy and Protection Policy describes how we publicise and manage 4th Heswall (St. Peter’s) Sea Scout Group’s activities online. We are committed to ensuring the privacy, safeguarding and the protection of our members in accordance with the Scout Policy Organisation Rules. Our Group Online Privacy and Protection Policy relates to all members and volunteers at 4th Heswall (St Peter’s) Sea Scout Group.

Social Media Platforms

We actively promote our group through our social media platforms and we encourage our members to support us in this. However, we understand social media is not for everyone and we respect our member’s rights to online privacy, particularly when it comes to social media.  You can take a look at our recent public social media at the links below, we also have private groups, these are strictly for parents, guardians and members of 4th Heswall (St. Peter’s) Sea Scout Group.

Management

The 4th Heswall website and social media accounts are managed by the Group’s digital communications team.  Any views expressed are not necessarily the views of 4th Heswall (St. Peter’s) Sea Scout Group or any Scout associated organisation. We do not use any automation (such as tools which generate tweets from RSS feeds) to post content.

Content

If you follow all or any 4th Heswall social media platforms you can expect regular posts covering the following:

  • News and Updates about what is happening in the Group and specific sections of the Group (public)
  • Compiled media highlighting a recent event or activity that we have been involved in (public)
  • Opportunities for your Scout to further their skills and experiences, just let the leadership team know if your Scout would like to take part in advertised Scouting activities. (public and private)
  • Celebrating the achievements of our members both within and outside Scouts, please contact our leaders if your Scout has achievements you would like us to share. (public)
  • Media, information, and updates whilst members are away during activities (private groups)

Endorsing

There may be images or mentions of branded items on our website and social media streams. We may share posts from accounts we follow which we feel may be relevant or of interest to our members, parents, leaders and followers.  If we mention, display, follow or share content or images from any brand, this does not imply endorsement or promotion by 4th Heswall (St. Peter’s) Sea Scout Group of any kind at any level. We do not receive favour or reward for any such activity.

Communication

You can follow and interact with 4th Heswall Scout Group in various ways online.

Our social media channels are not intended as ways to contact any members directly.  All of the Group’s online activity conforms to Scouting Policy Organisation Rules (POR), with additional information available regarding the Scout UK policy here.

Any specific or time precious information will be sent to you directly, or with your permission and should it be necessary, your Scout.

Online Gathering Policy

There are many ways we interact with our members online. Online conference calls with young members can inspire and enthuse our young people in so many ways, unfortunately such activities do present risk in terms of safeguarding.

We take care to ensure our website does not specifically identify any of our members unless consent has been given by their adult representative.  Should you feel that content on our site infringes any rights to privacy please contact a leader so we can address your concern.  The site is regularly updated by our leaders, if you have news or items you wish to be included or feel an existing page needs to be updated please contact us or speak to one of our leaders directly.

Member’s Area

Our website has a private member’s area for parents, volunteers and leaders to view data and media that is relevant to the running of our group.  We do not publicise sensitive or personal information in the member’s area, however, we feel it is best practice to share the information that is in the member’s area with our members and not publicly.  Please speak to a leader in person to gain access to the Member’s Area.

Feedback

Please be assured, if you are in any way unhappy or concerned with content found online, on our website, posted on social media, or anything you feel should not be online and in the public domain that possibly originated from 4th Heswall (St. Peter’s) Sea Scout Group, please contact your leader immediately, we will remove the content from our platform(s) and put measures in place to prevent a re-occurrence.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
