Chairman’s Report 2024

This has been another very successful year for the Group. Some of our major successes include our new Squirrels section winning the District Squirrel Drey of the Year award, Scouts winning a Royal Navy National Swimming Champion, a scout attending the World Scout Jamboree in Korea and others too numerous to mention.

All leaders and helpers have put in yet another marathon effort and the group has been able to expand by opening even more new sections with the establishment of meetings in The Lighthouse Church. We have now almost doubled our already large numbers of young people. This makes us one of the largest Groups in the Country and we have plans to improve even further.
There is a slide presentation on our YouTube Channel which highlights just some of our activities this year.
The hard work and enthusiasm of the leaders is brilliant and on behalf of everyone, I would like to sincerely thank them for all they have done and will do in the future.

We are always looking for help with activities for the young people. This doesn’t have to be a “full time” commitment but may involve coming down now and again to help and maybe you can pick up some new skills yourself at the same time.
As well as keeping up our great performance, one of our major challenges again will be ensuring that our finances are maintained. This is fully covered in the Treasurer’s report.

As you will see, the Group’s finances were relatively healthy at the end of last year, despite substantial spending on new equipment.
However, we have had to find new ways of raising money to ensure that we can continue to deliver high quality activities to our young people. We have been particularly successful in obtaining grants and awards, but any ideas you have for fundraising and any support you can give is vital.
Another challenge for the future is the transition to our new way of working and this is detailed elsewhere but if you can help with any of those roles would be appreciated. I am sure you will also gain something from the experience
Thank you for taking the time to read our report.
