The hikers had to self navigate through the lanes, footpaths, trails, and fields of mid-Cheshire from three start locations, via waypoint coordinates and several checkpoints, to a joint overnight Basecamp. On arrival they assembled their tents and cooked their own evening meals on stoves, followed by games, entertainment and chips.
With overnight temperatures dropping below zero it was a frosty start to Sunday, having plotted their route the night before the hikers set off along three different routes for the finish in Winsford. With lots of tired legs and feet on arrival, the hikers got to eat some food, watch a movie and chill out before the awards in front of hundreds of proud parents that afternoon.
Presented by Brian Young, the West Wirral District Commissioner for Scouts, our Pathfinders, Team 112, Ellie, Izzie, Ava, and Charlotte, won Best Headgear and the Cheshire Borders trophy. Our Explorer/Young Leader team 506, Matt, Tim, Dan, and Susie, won the Cheshire Borders trophy in their category.
Brilliant skills, resilience and determination were demonstrated throughout the weekend by over 500 Scouts and Explorers, this was amazing even more so this year as more than 90% had never taken part before. Every single young person who took part should feel exceptionally proud.
A MASSIVE THANK YOU to all the Cheshire Hike team, an outstanding bit of organising delivering an excellent and magical event, BRAVO.
