Dark Skies Chips & Pies

Date: 21st Feb 2019 Author: Scout Leader

One unseasonably warm night in February the 4th Heswall Beaver colony embarked on a 5 mile night time adventure through the Wirral countryside.

Armed with torches, change for chips and plenty of enthusiasm, the youngest and smallest members of our Scout group quickly covered the two-and half-mile night hike with the promise of hot chips clearly on their minds.

We travelled from our base in Lower Heswall along a disused railway line,  the Wirral Way which is part of Wirral Country Park and is a trail over 12 miles long, but tonight we only wanted chips in Parkgate.

Arriving at the old fishing village of Parkgate on the Dee Estuary, we walked the short distance along the quayside to Parkgate Fish & Chips where Beavers, Leaders and parents all enjoyed chips from the best Chippy on Wirral that night.

With full bellies and smiley faces we headed back to our headquarters along the Wirral Way.

On our way home, we took the opportunity to gaze into the heavens, with exceptionally clear skies the Beavers were able to do some real-life moon and constellation spotting for their Space Badge too.
