Heswall Night Hike

Date: 17th Nov 2019 Author: Scout Leader

On a moonlit night in November our Sea Scouts kitted up for a hike through history as they embarked on the 2019 5km night hike.

With head torches charged and boots laced tight the patrols set off at 5 minute intervals to embark on an unassisted night hike through Dales, Dungeons and deserted stations.

Planned over a few weeks, our Scouts wrote their own route plan, sketched a map and developed a kit list all based on a set of 12 waypoints provided in the form of 8 figure grid references.

The 3 mile multi terrain route was quite technical, with lots of mud, elevation and direction changes. At each waypoint the Scouts had to complete a task or question in order to complete the course and gain entry to the finishers party in Thurstaston.

The patrols all completed the course safely and in good time, at the finish we all enjoyed hot dogs, s’mores and hot chocolate.

A huge thank you to the leaders and 20+ parents for making this fantastic event memorable and safe for all our Sea Scouts and Young Leaders.
