RN Sea Scout Swimming Championships 2024

The first weekend of the February half term our volunteers took a Squadron of six 4th Heswall Sea Scouts to the Royal Navy National Swimming Championships at HMS Raleigh in Torpoint, Cornwall.

The competition was fierce with 24 RN Sea Scout Squadrons taking part, honours were available in the under 12s, U14 under U16 and under U18 categories.

Despite not winning any individual races, our Scouts consistently placed second, and third in most of the heats. This put four of our six competitors through to the finals on the Sunday. Sunday’s finals started with the medley relay, a thrilling performance from our under 12 junior Sea Scouts saw them almost last on the final leg, however Jack managed to close the gap on the 2nd Warwick Sea Scout to win the medley relay final by 1/100 of a second.

Sunday afternoon and time for the presentation of medals and trophies by the base commander. Daksh, Jack and Theo were very excited to receive their gold medals for winning the U12 medley relay.

The time had come to award the trophies. Once 2nd Warwick had been announced as the second place winners in the junior U12 category we knew we had a chance. Consistent second and third places and winning the medley relay by the smallest of margins meant the 4th Heswall under 12s Sea Scout Swimming Team were crowned Junior Champions of the Royal Navy National Sea Scout Swimming Championships 2024.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
