NEW Squirrels

Date: 7th Mar 2023 Author: Scout Leader

New Squirrel Scouts launched in Heswall for children aged four and five.

It is the first new age range opened by the Scouts in 35 years.

4th Heswall is a Royal Navy Recognised Sea Scout group that has been providing activities and adventure to the young people of Heswall for over 50 years.

Heswall Sea Scout Group has reported that since 2020 it has been inundated with requests from parents wanting boys and girls to join 4th Heswall Beavers (age 6-8), Cubs (age 8-10.5) and Sea Scouts (age 10.5-14).

To cope with the surge in demand, volunteer Mo Barker, the Group Scout Leader, has worked tirelessly to recruit new volunteers across all sections. The additional volunteers have enabled the provision of second Beaver and Cub sections to provide Scouting opportunities for over 60 additional young people aged 6 to 10.

The increase in popularity of Scouting has led to an all new section, Squirrels at 4th Heswall. The  Squirrel section has been created by the volunteer team for children aged four and five as part of a national roll out campaign by Scouts UK.

On the 1st March 2023 three volunteers, three Young Leaders and ten new squirrels began their scouting journey, with more children joining after Easter the new Squirrel Drey is already a great success.
