Sailing

Our group currently has Fusion and RS Feva sailboats which are used for sail training and racing on our lake during the summer months and adventures and games when at camp.

Our Sea Scouts regularly take to the water for training, games and racing twice a week which builds confidence and skills to take to the water and lead the way at camp.

Leadership Skills

We allow our senior Scouts to take the helm and coach our junior Scouts one-to-one  in different conditions under the supervision of our leaders, if they commit to the training and perform well we will recommend them for the higher RYA Qualifications and a Scout Personal Permit. Our Junior Scouts soon develop their confidence and skills to be able to helm a sailboat single handed within the first term.

Skills Assistant

We would ask any adults who have an RYA Sailing Level 2 or above to contact us, we can usually grant a permit and get you on the water in no time. Please contact our leaders and we will arrange a training and assessment session for you to become a skills assistant. If you have RYA Dinghy Instructor we can grant you a Skills Instructor permit subject to Safeguarding, RYA First Aid and a DBS certificates.

The Royal Yachting Association is the national governing body for dinghy, yacht and motor cruising, all forms of sail racing, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing and personal watercraft and a leading representative for inland waterways cruising.
