Dragonboating 2019

Dragonboating 2019…

In June our Sea Scouts took part in some Marine Lake tourism and ventured to Southport for some Dragonboating fun.

Each dragon boat can take up to 20 crew and a helm, using teamwork and a little effort the boats can be propelled at considerable pace through the water.  Paddling in time, usually to a drum beat, the start of the race is crucial, our Scouts started with 1-10 fast short strokes to get the momentum going, followed by longer more powerful strokes of 1-2 1-2 1-2, gradually picking up the pace so the boat will steadily accelerate to top speed.

All Scouts received the Dragonboat Scout badge as well as contributions toward On The Water, Teamwork and Teamleader badges.

Dragonboat Racing can be booked with Merseyside Scouts at…

Waterside Lodge, Marine Lake, Southport.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
