Winners of the West Wirral District President’s Prize

IT’S OFFICIAL: 4th Heswall is Best AGAIN

During our 50th year at the second ever online West Wirral District Scout annual meeting and celebrations evening, 4th Heswall (St Peter’s) Sea Scout Group have been awarded the President’s Prize as the best Scout Group in the District for a second year in succession.


The President’s Prize is a team award that recognises a group’s dedication to ensuring everything they do exemplifies the very best of Scouting. The efforts of our volunteer team are symbolised by this award and we would like to formally thank them here for their continued commitment and enthusiasm to Scouting at 4th Heswall.

Beaver Scouts
The Beaver Colony led by Laura Baker, Elizabeth Dennis, and Becky Fox meet on Wednesday evenings.
Cub Scouts
Our Cub Pack meets on a Tuesday evening, led by Melanie George, with Chris Mercier, and Glyn Shakeshaft. Glyn was part of our original Beaver Colony in 1985.
Sea Scouts
The Sea Scout Troop meets on a Tuesday evening and also Saturday mornings during the Summer, led by Andy Everett, with Mark Sargent, Becky Fox and Martin James. Martin’s father Peter James was a founding member in 1971. 
Group Leader
All sections are overseen and guided by Group Scout Leader, Mo Barker who is supported by a strong Executive Committee, chaired by Peter Ashworth. The group has a fabulous team of additional volunteers who undertake administration tasks and skills instruction with all activities being very well supported by our parents.
Special Thank You
Our group would not be a success without careful governance, a special thank you goes to Tony and Bernie Hailwood who, for many years, work tirelessly behind the scenes at 4th Heswall ensuring our leaders can continue to deliver unique experiences and memories for life to thousands of children from our community.
Commissioner’s Commendation 
Further recognition was received by Andy Everett, our Sea Scout leader. Andy has been awarded the Commissioner’s Commendation in recognition of his contribution and dedication to Scouts and 4th Heswall.

Winning for a second time recognises the adaptability and capability demonstrated by all our leaders and young people throughout 2020 and 2021.

Role Models
4th Heswall leaders deliver a rich and varied programme throughout the year, in addition to our active & inclusive programme we also have a busy events schedule too, taking part in many County and District events, as well as creating our own unique and exciting experiences for the children.
Testing Times
Despite these testing times, and face-to-face Scouting unable to take place, 4th Heswall has been active across all sections throughout the pandemic, taking part in lots of online challenges, camping at home, badge tasks, treasure hunts, and virtual escape rooms, combined with face to face adventures when we can, and within the Scout Association guidelines and restrictions.

Dedicated Team
Every adult at 4th Heswall is a dedicated volunteer who strongly believes in the benefits of Scouting for boys and girls aged 6 to 14.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
