Best in the West

The Wirral has a thriving Scouting community and our local West Wirral District is no exception with sixteen different Scout Groups from Meols to Heswall.

The lockdown hasn’t stopped the resourceful Scouts in our District, we have had weekly digital newsletters throughout, zoom meetings, online competitions, guest webinars, camping at home and even a few new Scout investitures.

During lockdown we also attended the West Wirral District AGM and Awards evening, usually held at Heswall Hall in June, this year for the first time ever it was held online. Our Beavers, Cubs, Sea Scouts, Young Leaders and Leaders were all able to sit down at home to watch the event live online.

The Annual Awards were announced online at this year’s AGM in June, last year the 4th Heswall Sea Scouts were awarded the Blackwood Award for best Scout Troop 2019, so it came with great surprise that our group, 4th Heswall St Peter’s Sea Scout Group, was announced winners of the President’s Prize for best group in West Wirral 2020.

Whilst our Sea Scouts were taking part in a September sunset sailing session at the marine lake in West Kirby, our Group Scout Leader Mo Barker was presented with the trophy for Best Group in the District 2020 by West Wirral District Scout’s Chairman, Mr Andrew Cain.
